The Communications Department serves as the vital link between the citizens and police officers of the City of Sheffield. We strive to collect and disseminate all requests for service in a prompt, courteous and efficient manner for all our citizens. Through our actions, we help save lives, protect property and assist the public with their needs.
Our department has four full-time dispatchers that are dedicated to serving the citizens of Sheffield. When you call or come by our department, our dispatchers are usually the first to greet you. They have the knowledge to answer your questions or to put you in touch with someone who does. They may direct your call or help you find what you are looking for.
All reports including Incident/Offense reports, Accident reports, and State of Alabama accident forms (SR-13) may be picked up at dispatch located at 600 North Montgomery Ave. Monday - Saturday between the hours of 8:00am and 4:30pm.
There is no charge for current Incident/Offense reports however there is a charge of $10.00 for each copy of current accident reports. For any Incident/Offense report or accident report that is TWO years or older there will be a charge of $25.00 each. Information is only released to the parties listed on the report. Anyone picking up a report must possess a current picture ID.
Fingerprinting is done free of charge to the residents of Sheffield. For residents not living in Sheffield there will be a charge of $25.00. Persons wishing to be fingerprinted must possess a current picture ID and must provide their own fingerprint cards. These should be obtained from the agency or business requesting the fingerprints. Fingerprinting is done on Tuesdays from 9 A.M. - 11 A.M. and on Thursdays from 1 P.M. - 3 P.M. only. No appointment is required and it is a first come, first serve basis.
