The Patrol Division patrols and responds to all calls for service within the City of Sheffield taking appropriate action as necessary. Protecting our city is our top priority. We strive to do this in a respectful manner based on our commitment to excellence, our mission, and our values and beliefs. Our Patrol Division works 12 hour shifts 7 days a week 365 days a year. Each shift is composed of a Captain, a Sergeant, and any number of patrolmen.
The Patrol Division is the frontline of the police department. Patrol is the "First Responders" and is the first on scene on calls such as Domestic Violence, Burglary, 911 medical calls, and accidents. This is where the "rubber meets the road" and is where reports are taken and initial suspects are arrested and charged with offenses. When you request police assistance or alert us of an emergency, our uniformed patrol officers respond quickly with the knowledge and the tools necessary to meet the need of the public.
The Patrol Division is also responsible for enforcing traffic laws within the city limits of Sheffield Alabama. Our officers are determined to make the streets of Sheffield safe for everyone.
The Sheffield Police Department is very proud to welcome "KILO". KILO is a 3 1/2 year old German Shepard who became a police officer in July 2011. He along with his handler, Officer Shawn Fields, graduated from the Kasseburg Canine Training Center in New Market AL on August 19th, 2011 as a narcotics detector.
School Resource Officer
The Sheffield Police Department is actively enrolled in the Sheffield City School System. Our School Resource Officer (SRO) is the liaison between the Sheffield City School system and the police department. We assist the staff and parents with questions and concerns that may arise and strive to have a positive outcome for our students. Sheffield Police Department’s SRO, Officer Henry Green, patrols all city schools including the elementary, junior high and high schools.
“My goal, along with the faculty and staff, is to keep each student safe and secure and assist them in any way possible to become the best student they can become and to help secure a brighter future.”
